HGI DISCUSSES THE ROLE OF THE HOMEGATEWAY IN IPTV AT THIS YEAR'S IPTV WORLD FORUM
The HGI was present at this year’s
IPTV World Forum conference and exhibition held at Olympia in London.  The annual event is solely dedicated to IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) technology and provides a platform for industry leaders and visionaries to discuss and formulate strategies on how to deploy IPTV effectivelty and efficiently.
David Thorne, Chair of HGI Architecture TF, spoke at the conference, presenting ‘Roles of the home gateway in IPTV’
.  As part of the presentation, David discussed details of the HGI’s current and future work including interconnection, Quality of Service (QoS), IPTV service support and remote management.
The HGI is committed to helping the industry provide a more robust and reliable IPTV service to consumers and this year will see a particular focus on Quality of Service and Quality of Experience, together with diagnostics for the homegateway.
HGI was also one of the official endorsers for this specialised IPTV event.

HGI discusses the future of Voice Technology at DECT World & CAT-iq 2009
The HGI was present at this years DECT World & CAT-iq 2009 conference in Amsterdam, the 13th annual event of its kind, dedicated soley to the DECT (Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) technology and a platform to discuss and formulate strategies on how to extend the reach of DECT into new markets around the world.
Philippe Calvet, Head of Business Group for the HGI, spoke at the conference, presenting The Home Gateway Initiative: Examining the Potential for DECT & CAT-iq. As part of the presentation, Philippe discussed details of the HGI’s current work on integrating CAT-iq 2.0 technology into the gateway environment - both inside the home gateway or through an USB drive - together with recommendations for the DECT industry based on contributions from HGI members.
Philippe
also took part in the panel session Creating Harmonisation Between DECT and DECT 6.0 in the US Market, with Cable Labs, which resulted in both cable & telco companies agreeing on the need to provide end-to-end solutions, integrating CAT-iq with diagnostics.
The HGI is committed to DECT as a voice technology and is continuing to research new generation services which will require IP capable handsets.
The HGI was also one of the official endorsers for this flagship event.


26 November 2008 - HGI GIVES FULL SUPPORT TO THE IPTV WORLD FORUM ASIA
The HGI will be showing its support at next week’s IPTV World Forum Asia, through an endorsement agreement with the organizers, Informa. The bespoke event will take place from the 4th to the 5th of December at the International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Singapore.
Being Asia’s leading IPTV event, the Group was eager to show its support at what is Asia’s premier IPTV event, on an occasion where the region’s leading operators, content owners and broadcasters joined forces to discuss this year’s growth in broadband subscribers and deployment rates.


18 November 2008 – HGI DISCUSSES SET-TOP-BOX EVOLUTION AT TelcoTv 2008
Last week’s TelcoTv proved to be a great platform for the HGI to share its views on the role of home gateways in delivering IPTV to the North American market, a region in which they are rapidly constantly striving to increasing their presence.
Duncan Bees, the HGI’s CTO, took part in the panel Set-Top Box Evolution: Gateway to the Home? , outlining the role that home gateways and set-top-boxes play in the IPTV arena and the functionality issues in connecting the two.  Other participants on the high-profile panel included Richard Brand Vice Chair from ATIS, Brian Feng Vice President for the Key Account Business Unit at ZyXEL and Mike Nawrocki Director of Standards at Verizon.

- Home Gateway Initiative at Broadband World Forum Europe 2008 – Brussels.
The Broadband World Forum Europe proved to be a tremendous success for the HGI.
Duncan Bees, the Groups’ CTO, took part in the panel Service Assurance in the Home Network: the end-to-end service view and its most critical component, where he outlined the HGI specifications and service provider use cases on delivering on service assurance via the Home Gateway.
Corrado Rocca, Member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Marketing Committee for the Home Gateway Initiative, and Senior Vice President for Product Marketing and Development at Pirelli Broadband Solutions, also presented during the event, taking part in the panel Standardization Key to Broadband Success; his talk highlighted the role of HGI within the broadband standards landscape.

May 2008 – The HGI makes three new documents available to the Broadband arena:  Parental control, Remote Access and Performance Metrics.  The HGI has recognized the need to have a number of ‘guideline’ documents that give additional background to the requirements specified by the HGI Residential Profile.   These documents are designed to help service providers better understand requirements when designing a Home Gateway in line with HGI recommendations.

May 2008. Renaming of the HGI document to the “Home Gateway Technical Requirements: Residential Profile”.
